MATTHEW ECKSTEIN is a sound designer, composer and AV design engineer. He has a Master of Fine Arts in Sound Design from the University of California, Irvine, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts, with honors in Technical Theater and Design, from Case Western Reserve University. He holds a CTS-D certification from AVIXA, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association.

Matt approaches sound design from a musical background. He started playing clarinet as a young student, and his passion for music has remained an integral part of his theatrical work. He expanded his repertoire to different ensembles and genres, but always found himself captivated by the storytelling power of music.

As Matt became fascinated with narrative in music, he began designing sound for dramatic text. He is particularly interested in sound design for heightened text dramatic works. He often employs the use of interactive technology in theatrical performance, to enhance the relationship between the actor and her/his aural environment.

This interest in interactive technology is also what draws Matt to his commercial design work. Matt started his commercial career working as an intern on the AV Engineering team at Technical Multimedia Design, Inc. (TMDI) in Burbank, California. While at TMDI, Matt worked on projects for clients such as Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney Creative Entertainment, and BRC Imagination Arts. Currently based in Denver, Colorado, Matt has had the opportunity to work on notable commercial projects around Denver, as well as regionally and nationally. Matt's theatrical training in creating an aural narrative and his instinctual storytelling ability give him a unique perspective on commercial AV design, and make him a talented sound system engineer and designer.

Matt is an active member of the Audio Visual and Integrated Experience Association, the United States Institute for Theater Technology, and the Theatre Communications Group.
